Helleborus orientalis 'Double Ellen Red' is an evergreen Lenten rose with rich red double flowers in winter. It adds deep colour to a shady border or container in the quietest part of the gardening year.
- Flowers: double, rich red, opening in winter
- Foliage: evergreen, so it keeps its leaves all year
- Supplied as 2 plants, each in a 14cm pot, around 35cm tall
- Light: partial shade, including dappled light under trees
- Use: borders, woodland planting and containers
- Provides early nectar for bees on mild days
Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with compost, keeping the crown level with the surface. Hellebores prefer to stay where they are planted, so choose the spot with care. Water in dry spells during the first year and cut back worn older leaves in late winter so the flowers show well. For containers, use a loam-based compost and free drainage.
Supplied as young plants in growing pots, shipped directly from our partner growers. Plants are living products, so size and shape can vary slightly from the photo.
