Astrantia major, known as Masterwort, is a charming woodland-edge perennial with pincushion flowers surrounded by papery, star-like bracts. It brings a delicate, cottage-garden look to shadier corners.
- Pack: 24 young plants in 11cm pots, about 15-25cm tall as supplied
- Flowers: white to pink pincushion blooms through summer
- Foliage: deeply cut, hand-shaped green leaves
- Light: partial shade or dappled shade; tolerates some sun with moisture
- Use: shady borders, woodland planting and cut flowers
Plant in spring or autumn in soil that holds moisture but drains freely, and mulch with garden compost to keep the roots cool. Irish rainfall suits it well. Cut back faded stems after flowering to keep the clump tidy.
Supplied as young plants in growing pots, shipped directly from our partner growers. Plants are living products, so size and shape can vary slightly from the photo.
