1 Metre Buxus Sempervirens Hedge Pack: 6 Plants for a Low Clipped Hedge
Common box (Buxus sempervirens) is the classic clipped evergreen for low hedges, edging and topiary: small glossy dark-green leaves and dense growth that takes tight pruning. This practical pack contains 6 plants in 12cm pots, about 20cm tall, enough for roughly 1 metre of hedge.

Growing and care
Box grows best in moist, well-drained soil, ideally on the chalky side. Feed in spring and water well while it establishes, including in winter after a long, sunny frost. Prune at the end of July or early August on an overcast day, cutting the new shoots back by about half. It also grows well as a ball or pyramid in a pot, next to lavender or sage on a terrace.
Before you buy: box moth and box blight
Common box is susceptible to box blight (a fungal disease) and to the box tree moth, which have damaged many box hedges across Europe. That is not a reason to avoid it, but inspect plants regularly from spring to autumn and act early if you see webbing, caterpillars or browning. If you would rather avoid the risk, see our box-free low hedging alternatives or read the comparison guide.
