How to choose

Match the plant to the spot

Light and space decide more than anything else. Walk the office first and note where each plant will go.

Where it will live Good choices Worth knowing
Window or bright spot Yucca, ponytail palm, money tree, white bird of paradise Most light-hungry plants do best here; turn them now and then for even growth
Away from windows, low light ZZ plant, sansevieria, dragon tree Tolerate low light but grow slowly; a windowless room won't suit any plant
Desk, shelf or small space Smaller ZZ, sansevieria, golden pothos on a shelf Choose compact sizes and keep them off radiators and printers
Tall floor corners and reception Strelitzia, yucca, dragon tree, areca palm Pick tall plants in heavy pots so they stay stable
The routine

Five minutes a week keeps them healthy

A plant that is checked, not fussed over, does best. Make it one person's job and put it in the calendar.

  • Check, don't schedule: push a finger into the compost and water only when the top few centimetres are dry
  • Water thoroughly: until it drains out, then empty the saucer
  • Light: keep plants near a window and away from radiators and air-conditioning vents
  • Dust: wipe large leaves occasionally so they can use the light
  • Winter: water less, because growth slows in low light and heating

When a managed service makes sense

If you have a large building, bespoke planters or a design brief, a managed landscape service is the right partner, and we'll say so. For a studio, clinic, agency or shop floor, easy-care plants you look after yourself are usually enough.

We don't do site visits or installations. Plants arrive in protective boxes, ready to unbox and place. If something goes wrong, email info@plantgift.ie with photos.

FAQ

Office plants: your questions answered

Do I need a maintenance contract for office plants?
Not for easy-care plants. Sansevieria, ZZ plant, yucca, ponytail palm and dragon tree tolerate drying out between waterings and the dry air and uneven light of a normal office. They still need someone to check them every week or two, but that can be anyone, and a contract is only worth it for large or complex installations.
What are the best low-maintenance plants for an office?
Sansevieria (snake plant), Zamioculcas (ZZ plant), yucca, Beaucarnea (ponytail palm), dragon trees (Dracaena) and money tree (Pachira) are dependable choices. All are in our office plants collection. Choose by light and space: tall plants for floor corners, smaller ones for desks and shelves.
How often should I water office plants?
Water when the top few centimetres of compost have dried out, rather than on a fixed day. For succulent-type plants like sansevieria, ZZ and ponytail palm, that may mean every two to three weeks, and less in winter. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems, so check the compost with a finger first.
Can plants survive in an office with little natural light?
Some cope better than others. ZZ plants, sansevieria and dragon trees tolerate low light, but no plant thrives in a windowless room, and growth will be slow. Place plants as close to a window as practical and avoid positions next to radiators or air-conditioning vents.
Are office plants safe for pets?
Several popular office plants, including dragon trees, yucca and ZZ plant, can cause stomach upset if chewed by pets. If animals visit your workplace, place plants out of reach and check each plant's toxicity before you buy.
What if a plant arrives damaged?
Email info@plantgift.ie with photographs. Plants arrive under our healthy-arrival guarantee, so a plant that arrives damaged, diseased or in poor condition is replaced or refunded. See our delivery page for details.
Can I order for a larger office or a fit-out?
Yes. For multiple plants or a larger project, see our bulk and trade orders page or email info@plantgift.ie with the number of plants and your delivery location. Trade pricing is available on request.
Do you deliver office plants across Europe?
Yes. Delivery is free and tracked to Ireland and 24 more EU countries, typically 5–8 working days from dispatch. Plants travel in protective boxes, ready to unbox and place.
