Symphoricarpos chenaultii 'Hancock' - Hardy Snowberry Ground Cover (60-Pack)

Symphoricarpos chenaultii 'Hancock', commonly known as Hancock Snowberry or Hancock Coralberry, is a low-growing deciduous shrub that provides year-round visual interest. This bulk pack of 60 plants in 9cm pots (10-25cm height) offers an economical solution for creating instant ground cover, low hedges, or mass plantings across larger areas.

Key Features

This compact shrub reaches 1-2 feet in height while spreading 6-8 feet wide, making it ideal for covering ground quickly. In summer, small bell-shaped white flowers appear along the branches, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. These blooms are followed by abundant clusters of striking white berries in autumn that persist well into winter, providing exceptional seasonal interest when most other plants have finished their display.

The dense, spreading growth habit features arching branches that root at nodes, creating a weed-suppressing carpet of blue-green foliage. This vigorous spreading nature makes 'Hancock' particularly effective for erosion control on slopes, banks, and embankments.

Growing Conditions & Care

Hancock Snowberry thrives in both full sun and partial shade, demonstrating remarkable adaptability to various light conditions. It tolerates a wide range of soil types including heavy clay, poor soils, wet areas with poor drainage, and dry conditions once established. This weather-resistant shrub is hardy, deer-resistant, and pollution-tolerant, making it suitable for challenging garden locations.

Maintenance requirements are minimal. Prune in early spring before new growth emerges to maintain compact habit and increase flower and fruit production, as blooms occur on new wood. The plant is generally pest and disease-free, though occasional powdery mildew or anthracnose may occur.

Landscape Uses

Plant 4-5 feet apart for ground cover applications, or closer for faster coverage. Use as a low hedge, border edging, facer shrub in front of taller plantings, or mass planting for slopes and erosion control. Excellent for rain gardens, naturalistic plantings, and naturalized areas. The berry-laden stems also work beautifully in winter floral arrangements.

Please note: Plants are living products and may therefore differ from the photo and description. Minor natural imperfections can occur. These often recover in your garden. These plants are vigorous and long-lasting. They are supplied in growing pots and are shipped directly from our partner growers.
