Ajuga reptans 'Catlin's Giant' - Large-Leafed Ground Cover (60-Pack)

Ajuga reptans 'Catlin's Giant' is a vigorous ground cover featuring large, glossy leaves with vibrant green and purple-bronze tones. This variety produces impressive blue flower spikes in late spring that attract bees and butterflies to your garden.

• Height: 10-25cm foliage, with flower spikes reaching up to 30cm
• Spread: Forms dense mats 18-24 inches wide per plant
• Flowers: Deep blue-violet spikes in late spring
• Foliage color: Glossy green with purple-bronze highlights

Growing Conditions

This hardy perennial thrives in shady spots where grass struggles to grow, making it perfect for planting under trees or as border edging. Catlin's Giant tolerates a range of light conditions from full shade to part sun, and adapts to various soil types as long as drainage is adequate. Once established, it requires minimal maintenance and tolerates moderately dry conditions.

Garden Uses

Ideal for weed suppression thanks to its dense, mat-forming growth habit. Use Catlin's Giant Ajuga along pathways, under shrubs and trees, on slopes for erosion control, or as an attractive alternative to traditional lawn grass in shaded areas. The spreading habit via stolons allows it to gradually colonize areas and fill gaps effectively.
