Accessibility Statement

Accessibility Commitment

At PlantGift we want everyone to be able to browse, choose and order plants independently, whatever technology they use. This statement explains how accessible our website currently is, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when we get it wrong.

Conformance status

Our website is partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means most of the standard is met, but some content does not yet fully conform. The specific exceptions we are aware of are listed under Known limitations below.

WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the benchmark referenced by the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 and by the European Accessibility Act.

What currently meets the standard

Checked across our homepage, collection pages, product pages, blog articles, cart and information pages:

  • Text and background colour combinations across the site meet the AA contrast minimum of 4.5:1
  • Every page has a "skip to content" link, a declared page language, and named main and navigation landmarks
  • All images carry alternative text; decorative images are correctly marked as decorative so screen readers skip them
  • All form fields have programmatic labels
  • The homepage slideshow can be paused, and no content moves or updates automatically without a control
  • Data tables use proper header cells
  • No content relies on a forced tab order, untitled frames, or link text such as "click here"

Accessibility tools on this site

An accessibility menu is available on every page. It lets you resize content, choose a profile suited to motor impairment, colour blindness, vision impairment, cognitive focus, epilepsy safety or ADHD, adjust visual settings, and reset everything to default.

These tools are an addition to an accessible site, not a substitute for one. We treat any underlying barrier as a defect to be fixed in the site itself.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following, and are working on them:

  • Alternative text on part of the catalogue. Some product image descriptions are generated from the product name. They accurately identify the plant, its pot size and its height, but they describe the product rather than the specific photograph.
  • Third-party components. Checkout, payment providers, the chat window and the accessibility menu itself are supplied by third parties. We choose vendors with accessibility in mind but we do not control their code, and we cannot guarantee their conformance.
  • No independent audit. The assessment below is our own internal review. We have not yet commissioned a third-party accessibility audit or testing with users of assistive technology.

Recently resolved

  • Colour contrast. Three text and background combinations, including the delivery banner shown on every page, fell below the 4.5:1 minimum. Corrected on 2 September 2026 — all combinations now pass.
  • Duplicate top-level headings. Eight landing pages presented two level-one headings, which made the page structure ambiguous for screen reader users. Corrected on 2 September 2026 — every page now has exactly one.
  • Hero links. Country links in the delivery banner rendered in a dark colour against a photographic background. Corrected on 2 September 2026 — they now match the surrounding text and keep an underline so they remain identifiable as links.

How we assessed this site

  • Method: self-evaluation — automated checks against WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria, plus manual review of page structure, headings, colour contrast, forms and alternative text
  • Pages sampled: homepage, a collection page, a product page, a blog article, the cart, and our information and policy pages
  • Date of this assessment: 2 September 2026
  • Statement last reviewed: 2 September 2026

We review this statement whenever we make a significant change to the website, and at least once a year.

Feedback and contact

If you find a barrier we have not listed, or you need something on this site in a different format, please tell us — it helps us fix it for everyone.

  • Email: info@plantgift.ie — please include the page address and a short description of the problem
  • Chat: the chat window at the bottom of any page; if we are away, messages reach us by email

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within one working day and to respond substantively within five working days. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you what we are doing and offer another way to complete your order in the meantime.

If you are not satisfied

If you contact us about an accessibility barrier and you are not happy with our response, you can escalate the matter to the national authority responsible for the accessibility of services in your country. In Ireland, general consumer queries can also be raised with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
