Picea glauca 'Conica' (dwarf Alberta spruce) grows naturally in a tidy cone, which is why it works as a living Christmas tree. This is a pack of 2 living trees, each about 65cm tall in a 19cm pot. They are hardy conifers that belong outdoors, so think of them as porch, doorstep or table trees that visit the house briefly.
- Dense, cone-shaped habit with soft, light-green needles
- Very slow-growing: eventually 1.5-2.5m, but over decades
- Keeps its shape without pruning
- Pack of 2 trees, each about 65cm tall in a 19cm pot
- A jute bag is included, so it is ready to display.
- Full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-drained soil once planted out
Keep them outside as long as you can, with LED lights and light ornaments. If you bring one in, limit the stay to about 10-12 days in the coolest, brightest spot, away from radiators, fires and stoves. Water when the top of the compost starts to dry and never leave the pot standing in water. Warm, dry indoor air weakens spruce and encourages spider mites, which is another reason to keep the indoor stay short. Afterwards, harden it off in an unheated porch or shed for a few days, then return it to a sheltered outdoor spot or plant it out. Pots dry out faster than the ground, so check them regularly.
