Growing Conditions
Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead' is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial that performs best in full sun with well-drained soil. This compact lavender variety is perfect for edging pathways, creating low hedges, or filling containers on patios and balconies. Once established, it requires minimal watering and maintenance, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens.
Planting and Care
Plant your 'Munstead' lavender 30-40cm apart for hedging or borders. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. After flowering, trim back spent blooms to encourage a second flush and maintain compact shape. In colder regions, this variety shows excellent winter hardiness, reliably returning year after year.
Uses in the Garden
This versatile lavender works beautifully in Mediterranean-style gardens, cottage garden schemes, and modern minimalist landscapes. Plant en masse for dramatic impact, use as a low hedge along pathways, or combine with ornamental grasses and perennials for texture contrast. The flowers can be harvested for dried arrangements, potpourri, or culinary use.
