24x Cornus Canadensis Bunchberry - Shade Ground Cover 10-25cm

Cornus Canadensis - Bunchberry Ground Cover (24-Pack)

Cornus canadensis, commonly known as bunchberry or Canadian dogwood, is a low-growing ground cover from North America that creates a lush carpet effect in shaded gardens. This rhizomatous perennial spreads naturally to form dense colonies, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalized areas.

Plant Specifications

Each plant in this 24-pack measures 10-25cm in height and arrives in a 9cm growing pot. Bunchberry typically grows 4-9 inches (10-22cm) tall and spreads 6-12 inches (15-30cm) wide through creeping underground rhizomes. The glossy green leaves are arranged in distinctive whorls of 4-6, creating an attractive layered appearance.

Flowers and Berries

In late spring to midsummer, white dogwood-like flowers appear above the foliage. Each bloom consists of four showy white bracts surrounding tiny greenish-yellow flowers. By late summer, these blossoms give way to clusters of bright red berries that persist into fall, providing food for birds and adding visual interest to your garden.

Growing Conditions

Cornus canadensis thrives in partial to full shade and prefers cool, moist, acidic to neutral soil (pH 5.5-7) that is well-drained and rich in organic matter. Native to the cool forests of North America, it performs best in woodland settings under tree canopies where it receives dappled shade. Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for natural spreading. Once established, bunchberry is low maintenance and deer resistant.

Wildlife Benefits

This pollinator-friendly ground cover attracts butterflies, bees, and beneficial insects. The plant is a host for three specialist bee species and provides nectar for various pollinators. Red berries attract songbirds during fall migration, making it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens.

Bulk Pack Advantage

This 24-plant pack provides excellent coverage for larger areas or multiple garden sections. Ideal for creating continuous ground cover under trees, along shaded pathways, or in woodland borders. The bulk quantity allows you to establish a natural carpet effect more quickly and economically.
