FAQ

Indoor plant questions, answered

What are the best indoor plants for Irish homes?
Plants that cope with short winter days and central heating. The Kentia palm handles cool rooms and low winter light, the ZZ plant copes with dim hallways, the peace lily flowers well in modest light, and Dracaena tolerates the dry air of heated homes better than most.
How do I choose the right plant for a room?
Start with light: stand where the plant will go and look at how much sky you can see. North-facing rooms suit low-light plants; bright south- or west-facing rooms suit Strelitzia, yucca and ponytail palm. Then think about humidity (bathrooms and kitchens suit ferns and calatheas) and the space the plant will grow into.
Which indoor plants are safe for cats and dogs?
Kentia palm, areca palm, parlour palm, money tree, calathea, prayer plant, bird's nest fern, ponytail palm and cast iron plant are listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs by the ASPCA. Monstera, fiddle-leaf fig, peace lily, ZZ plant and bird of paradise are not — keep those away from pets that chew. Browse our pet-safe plants.
What indoor plants need the least care?
The ZZ plant, snake plant, cast iron plant and ponytail palm are the hardest to kill. See our easy-care plants guide for a full comparison of light, watering and pet safety.
How are large indoor plants delivered?
Every plant travels in a purpose-built plant box with root-ball protection and stem support. Delivery is free to Ireland and 24 more EU countries, tracked, and typically takes 5–8 working days from dispatch. Times can vary in December and around Mother's Day and Easter.
Can I send an indoor plant as a gift?
Yes — just enter the recipient's address at checkout. A handwritten gift message is available on selected gift plants; you'll see the option on the product page. For ideas, read our indoor plant gift guide.
What if my plant arrives damaged?
If a plant arrives damaged, diseased or in poor condition, email info@plantgift.ie within 48 hours of delivery with a couple of photos. We'll replace it or refund the cost, and we aim to reply the same or next working day.
Can I visit a shop or nursery?
We're a family-run online plant shop based in Knocklyon, Dublin 16, and we don't have a walk-in nursery. Questions are welcome by email at info@plantgift.ie, by live chat during working hours, or via our contact form.
