Clematis 'The President' is a striking climbing plant with large, deep-purple, star-shaped flowers that bring a rich, regal presence to the garden. Position

'The President' performs best in a sunny to partly shaded spot. It's ideal for training up a garden wall, trellis, pergola or obelisk. Follow the classic clematis rule: keep the roots cool and shaded while the top growth reaches for the sun — a mulch or low planting at the base helps.

Care

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil and water regularly, particularly during dry spells and while establishing. A yearly feed and a light prune keep the vine vigorous and full of flower. Hardy and reliable, it returns year after year.
