Vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll' is a compact evergreen perennial that creates a dense carpet of small, dark green leaves with pure white flowers from April to September. This lesser periwinkle variety is more refined and compact than other Vinca minor cultivars, making it perfect for smaller garden spaces.
Key Features
This white-flowering ground cover produces an abundance of star-shaped white blooms that brighten shaded areas throughout the growing season. The glossy, deep green foliage remains attractive year-round, providing continuous visual interest even when not in flower. The low-growing habit reaches 10-25cm in height and spreads effectively to form weed-suppressing mats.
Ideal Growing Conditions
Vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll' thrives in partial shade to full shade, though it produces more flowers in brighter conditions. It grows well in moist, well-drained soil and adapts to various soil types including chalk, clay, loam, and sand. Once established, this hardy perennial requires minimal maintenance and tolerates dry conditions better than many shade-loving plants.
